Formative & Summative Assessments
English 7 covers a large array of specific skills outlined with the Minnesota State Standards. Students will be assessed on all of these skills through two forms of assessments. Formative assessments (also known as assessment for learning) are a key component of my curriculum and will be using a variety of different types throughout the course of the year to check for student understanding. Here are just a few examples of formative assessments:
*Exit slips
*Quick writes
*Think-Pair-Shares
*Journal entries
*Blog entries
All formative assessments are graded on a 0-4 scale similar to GPA:
Score Description
(4) Expert - My response shows I understand the content/ skills completely and can explain them in detail.
(3) Proficient - My response shows I understand the important parts about the content/skills.
(2) Developing - My response shows I have a general understanding of the content/skills, but I’m also confused about some important parts.
(1) Beginning - My response shows I have minimal understanding of the content/skills.
(0) No Evidence - My response/or lack thereof shows I have no understanding of the content/skills.
